HOW TO CREATE A STANDOUT APPLICATION

We’re excited that you’re considering applying for a role with Young Australians in International Affairs (YAIA)! To help you put your best foot forward, we’ve put together some key advice to guide you through the process. Please read these steps carefully before submitting your application.

Tailor Your Application: Ensure your application clearly aligns with the role’s requirements and highlights how you can contribute to our organisation’s mission.

  • How can I apply for a position at YAIA?
To apply, please email your resume (max two pages) and a one-page cover letter together as one PDF file that addresses the position requirements listed in the Position Description to the email/s specified in the Position Description. Please contact us at people@youngausint.org.au if you need any help or adjustments to apply for this role or the application materials to be sent to you in a different format.
  • Do I need to meet all the qualifications listed in the Position Description to apply?
While meeting all the qualifications is helpful (and some positions may require specific experience), we encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply even if they do not meet every single requirement. We value transferable skills, diverse perspectives and passions, and a willingness to learn. We assess applications based on a combination of experience, skills, and potential.
  • What if I have a disability or need accommodations during the application process?
We are committed to making our recruitment process accessible to all candidates. If you require any accommodations, such as assistance with submitting your application or participating in interviews, please reach out to people@youngausint.org.au so we can discuss how to support you.
  • Can I apply for multiple roles at once?
Yes, you are welcome to apply for more than one role. However, please be sure to tailor your resume and cover letter for each position to demonstrate your qualifications and interest in each specific role.
  • How long does the recruitment process take?
The timeline for recruitment can vary depending on the role and the number of applicants. After submitting your application, you will receive an acknowledgment email. If your application progresses, we will contact you with next steps and interview details.
  • Can I request feedback on my application or interview?
We strive to provide feedback to all candidates upon request, particularly those who reach the interview stage. If you would like feedback on your application or interview, please email us at people@youngausint.org.au, and we will do our best to provide constructive feedback.
  • I’ve applied before but didn’t get the position. Can I apply again?
Yes, we encourage you to apply again, particularly if you have gained additional experience, skills or passion!
  • What should I do if I need to update my application after submitting it?
If you need to make changes to your application, please contact us at people@youngausint.org.au as soon as possible, and we’ll let you know the best way to update your application.
  • What are the most important things to remember when applying?
Read the Position Description carefully and ensure you meet the required skills and experience. Tailor your resume and cover letter to the specific position, and highlight your relevant skills and experiences - for example, if it is an events role, please don’t shy away from the details of your events experience in your CV and cover letter! Submit your application as one PDF, as per the instructions.
  • What can I expect in the interview process?
Our interviews are typically 30 minutes, and are conducted via Google Meet. We aim to make the interview experience as comfortable as possible and focus on your skills, experience, and alignment with the role and our organisational values.
  • How do you take payment?
We take payment through Paypal which is a secure site. Currency is in AUD.
  • Where do you ship to?
Currently, we only ship within Australia and it's territories. If you are outside of Australia - get in touch!
  • What is your returns policy?
YAIA sells merchandise to fund its educational initiatives, helping to empower the next generation of leaders in international affairs. As a result, we do not offer refunds or accept returns. However, under Australian consumer law, if you think there is a major issue with the product, we will be happy to provide an exchange for the product, or if necessary accept the return of the product for a refund. We are also happy to do a size swap at one of our events in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra or Melbourne providing the item has not been worn, still has its tag and we have available items in the size you would like to swap for. Please email receipts@youngausint.org.au if you would like to organise a refund or an exchange.
  • I ordered the wrong size. What can I do?
